4 Fun Things to do This Summer on Cape Cod

Celebrate Summer on Cape Cod

It may be cold outside here in New England, but that never stops us from dreaming about celebrating the upcoming summer! While Cape Cod is the “go to” place on the New England coastline for beach lovers, there are many other fun activities to experience on Cape Cod.  Visitors from around the globe and even those living just a few hours away, revel in the warm days and cool breezy evenings on the Cape. Fine dining and plenty of nightlife coupled with outdoor exploration, makes Cape Cod the perfect place for your vacation this year. To help you start dreaming of summer, here are our favorite ways to celebrate the summer season on Cape Cod.

1 | Ride the Rail Trail

Explore Cape Cod’s diverse landscape when you bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail. The trail spans across 27.5 miles and leads you through salt marshes, pine forests, cranberry bogs, sandy beaches, and briny seaports. Visitors have countless opportunities to stop in town for a quick bite to eat or to explore the unique shops and businesses that make up this charming area. Newly expanded, this sprawling path extends even further, allowing for convenient access to all the Cape has to offer. What began as a 19th-century rail line that brought travelers from New York and Boston is now a popular attraction for people looking to explore this beautiful region.

2 | Stroll Through the Town of Chatham

After finishing a delicious (and filling!) breakfast at the Inn at Yarmouth Port, our guests venture out for a stroll through the quaint village of Chatham. About a 30-minute drive from the Inn, we always recommend heading directly to the Chatham Fish Pier. Here you’ll watch the fishing vessels unloading their daily catch while playful seals gather round the boats for a tasty meal. No stop to the fish pier is complete without tasting the luncheon fare at the Chatham Fish Market. Our guests claim that the lobster roll at the Pier is the best on Cape Cod! For a more leisurely lunch, walk across the street to the beautiful Chatham Bars Inn and dine alfresco on their outdoor patio. Drive back into the village of Chatham then stroll through the town and visit the numerous artisan shops to find the perfect vacation souvenir. Head back to the Inn where your freshly made afternoon baked goods await! The perfect summer day!

3 | Take a Whale Watching Cruise

One of the most wondrous experiences in nature is watching a majestic whale leap for joy out of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s even better seeing the new baby whales tagging along.  Did you know you can add-on discounted whale watching tickets to your stay? Trips book quickly, so advanced ticket purchases are strongly recommended.  We’ll help you arrange a time for an experience you’ll not soon forget. The Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises is mid-capes only whale watch and departs just a short drive from the Inn.

4 | Visit the Cape Cod National Seashore

If you’re looking for a beautiful and serene place to explore on Cape Cod, look no further than the Cape Cod National Seashore. This stunning park offers miles of unspoiled coastline, rolling hills, pristine forests, and crystal-clear waterways. It’s no wonder that it’s one of our guests’ favorite spots on the Cape!

Make sure to visit  Marconi Beach. This gorgeous beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and simply taking in the stunning views. The boardwalk is also a wonderful place to take a leisurely stroll or go for a jog. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike up to the top of the dunes for an even better view of the beach.

Visitors also love the bird trails. There are more than 50 miles of trails to explore, and they offer stunning views of the ocean. The trails are home to a variety of birds, including ospreys, eagles, and sandpipers. If you’re looking for a place to go birdwatching, the National Seashore is the place to be. Be sure to bring your binoculars!
