The Best Things to Do on Cape Cod This Summer

EXPLORING CAPE COD

Spring is magical but summer is spectacular! Visiting Cape Cod in the summer is like stepping back into an historic New England seaside village. Travelers from all over flock to our region to experience some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches on the planet. The natural beauty coupled with the historic charm of Yarmouth Port offers visitors the perfect home base for an epic summer vacation.

The village of Yarmouth Port is considered “Mid-Cape” and is centrally located on the peninsula making it easy to access all the exciting adventures Cape Cod has to offer. Settled in 1696, Yarmouth Port’s Main Street is a national historic scenic byway called, “Route 6A.” As you meander through the village, you will step back into a simpler time and begin to slow down and relax. You’ll see sea captain’s mansions, old country stores and even the original hitching posts used to tie up horses when the streets were lined with cobblestones. Walkers love traveling along the marshy seashore nearby to experience the diverse wildlife and flora our area has to offer.

There’s no lack of activities both within the village and a short distance from Yarmouth Port itself. Here are a few ideas to help get your vacation planning started!

The Food

The culinary scene on Cape Cod captures the charming, maritime essence of this historic New England peninsula. Stop in for a light and refreshing lunch at a farm-to-table restaurant before embarking on any coastal adventures. Or, maybe you’d like to make advanced reservations at a critically-acclaimed, fine-dining establishment. Whether you’re searching for the best lobster roll in Massachusetts or hoping to try a new-to-you international delicacy, you’ll find just the right dish to quell your hunger on the Cape.

The best way to experience a destination is through the lens of a local. Your innkeepers are more than happy to point you in the right direction of the best food in the area. For even more thoughtful suggestions on where to eat and what to do during your stay, request access to our complimentary Travel Guide!

The Sunsets

There’s something magical, not to mention romantic, about watching a sunset. Watch it solo and magically rediscover one of nature’s most beautiful gifts. Watch it with your partner and there’s no more romantic way to begin a special evening. One of our favorite sunset spots is Gray’s beach and boardwalk—an 800-foot walkway into the skyline that makes you feel like you’re stepping right into a Monet painting. The other sunset to catch is from Chapin’s Beach where the horizon and the ocean meet each night for a spectacular dance.

Nantucket

Accessible only by boat, a day trip to Nantucket cannot be missed. You’ll hop the ferry at the dock just a few miles from the Inn and enjoy a 14 mile trip across the Cape Cod Sound. The ferry ride into the harbor alone will make you realize you’re onto something very special. Once there, its just a few step into town where you’ll step back into the 1800’s an experience historic homes, whaling museums, cobblestone streets and world-class dining and shopping.

If you’ve only got a short time on Cape Cod to visit the surrounding Islands, we recommend Nantucket. Nantucket’s points of interest are all within walking distance from the ferry dock and no additional transportation is required.
