Cape Cod in the Fall: A Hiker’s Paradise
With hundreds of miles of trails, Cape Cod offers plenty of opportunities for guests to explore the area’s natural beauty. Our diverse ecosystems, from forests offering lush canopy, to seaside beaches and dunes, to acres and acres of farmland, make for diverse and interesting hikes. And with high temperatures typically ranging from the mid-50s to the mid-70s, Cape Cod is the perfect place to explore on foot this fall.
Check out these four Cape Cod fall hike options near The Inn at Yarmouth Port to get your steps in (after your delicious farm-to-table breakfast, of course.) Then head back to the Inn for your afternoon homemade baked goods!
Gingerbread Lane Loop
The marsh-side Gingerbread Lane Loop starts at the Inn, winds through wooded areas, and offers the most beautiful seaside views (and sunsets!) you’ll see on Cape Cod. Ask your Innkeeper to show you the route!
Nickerson State Park
Nickerson State Park, located nearby in Brewster, offers more than 1,900 acres. Miles of trails wind through forests, cranberry bogs, and Cape Cod Bay. The park transforms into an amazing landscape of reds, oranges, and yellows, making it the perfect spot for a Cape Cod fall hike. See the trail map here.
Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary
Fall is the perfect time to take a leisurely 2.5-mile stroll through Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary. Love taking nature photos, or simply basking in the glory of the great outdoors? You will enjoy your encounters with unique wildlife, the gentle trails, and the million-dollar view at Barnstable Harbor of Sandy Neck Barrier Beach. Perfect for an afternoon excursion. Just a stone’s throw from the Inn!
Flax Pond Trailway and Secret Swimming Hole
A local hidden gem, the Flax Pond Trailway is one of our Innkeeper’s favorite places for a nature walk. And a quick dip in the clear freshwater swimming hole! Several access points are located about 10 minutes from the Inn, and you have your pick of loops that span 20 to 40 minutes. See the trail map.
