Your Guide to a Relaxing Bed and Breakfast Weekend Getaway
While it is always tough to say goodbye to all the warm possibilities of summer, we are really enjoying the way fall makes us want to curl up under some blankets with a good book. We had a great summer here at the Inn at Yarmouth Port, but the fun isn’t nearly over. In fact, some say autumn is the most enjoyable time to be on Cape Cod. An autumn weekend in Yarmouth Port is a great option for those who want to enjoy a quieter getaway in a once bustling beach town. Don’t believe us? We’ve compiled 5 Ideas for a Perfect Autumn Weekend on Cape Cod. Here are some of our favorite ideas for great things to do, see, and taste this fall.
1. Curl up with a book from Parnassus Book Services.
Bundle up to take the five-minute stroll from the Inn at Yarmouth Port to Parnassus Book Services. Located right on historic Route 6A, this third-generation, family owned book store houses a wonderful selection of new, used, and rare books. You’ll love getting lost in this shop as much as you’ll love getting lost in your new book! When you’re done browsing, head back to the inn and curl up in our cozy living room with some hot tea and freshly baked banana bread.
2. Explore the eclectic Edward Gorey House.
Edward Gorey was a writer, artist, and playwright. Known for his whimsical and surreal illustrations and stories, Gorey lived in Yarmouth Port from 1986 until his passing in 2000. You can now explore his eclectic home as well as some of his astonishing work at the Edward Gorey House, located less than a ten-minute walk from the inn. The 2018 exhibit, Murder He Wrote, explores Gorey’s fascination with the murder-mystery genre in his writing and illustrations. It’s the perfect exhibit for a fall afternoon on the Cape. More information can be found on their website.
3. Take a Cape Cod Beer tour and indulge in a tasting.
An easy ten-minute drive from the Inn at Yarmouth Port will take you to the Cape Cod Beer brewery. Cape Cod Beer got its start in 2004 with a single employee and has since evolved to housing a thirty barrel brew house with a huge selection. You can catch a tour of the brewing facilities daily at 11 AM. When your tour is done, you can grab a tasting of some of their delicious offerings. Their seasonal brew, Cape Cod Harvest, is a fall favorite.
4. Take in a crisp autumn sunset at Gray’s Beach.
A five-minute drive will take you to one of our favorite sunset viewing spots on all of Cape Cod. Gray’s Beach features an eight-hundred foot boardwalk over a picturesque marsh and unbeatable ocean views. It is a popular summer destination, but we find it much more enjoyable in the quiet autumn months when you just might have the whole place to yourself!
5. Enjoy the fall specials at Grill 43.
One of our favorite places to eat is only a ten-minute walk from the Inn at Yarmouth Port. Enjoy delicious American fare and freshly caught seafood offerings. A curated array of specials will have you reveling in the flavors of fall. We would love to help arrange your dinner reservations for a relaxed night out.
